Questions and Answers

What exactly am I going to do for you?
I’m here to help you use the internet to get your business ‘out there’. After talking with you I’ll do one of the following:
* Design, build, host and maintain your site
* Design and build a site, then you host and maintain it

Isn’t putting a website up really expensive?
The cost of a web site is like the cost of a new car: depends on what features you want or need.

My main focus is on designing an effective web site at an affordable price for entrepreneurs, non-profits and small businesses.

Here is a list of the different fees you might encounter in designing, building, and uploading a web site:
* Domain Name: This cost will vary. The domain name is yourname.com. I will register your name for you, if you haven’t already done it.
* Design, build and host the site: The cost will vary depending on how big and complex your site needs to be to be effective. Base price is $250.00.
* Host server fee: This can cost anywhere from $6.99 per month, paid one year in advance; up to $80 a month and up. Some hosts are free. But you may end up with unwanted banners or pop-up ads. These things tend to take away from any good site. And the presence of pop-up windows tends to drive potential customers and visitors away.
* Little extras: These may include items such as:
** A password protection gate so that only invited people can see your pages. Best if used for a family site or a subscription only site. Look in my portfolio for a sample of a subscription only site.
** A guest book so that your visitors can leave their thoughts or message.
** A site that has music playing in the background.

How do you get paid, by the hour or by the job?
Designing and building a web site is paid by the job, with 50% of the total cost paid upfront and the balance paid upon completion.

Maintenance and managing a site is paid by the month. The cost of maintaining your site will vary per month depending on the amount of work involved.

How much time does it take to maintain a web site once it is up? That depends on the purpose of the site.

* Commercial Site: This will need editing as often as photographs of new products are added.
** Photos are taken; descriptions are written.
** Out of date items are taken down and placed in an album.
** This type of site may need several visits each month.
** However, if you have a set number and type of products, the time involved is minimal.
** Weekly checks for broken links

* Informational Site: The information does not become out of date or out of season.
** Current information is updated on a weekly, monthly or quarterly basis

Consider These Questions
1. What is the general purpose of your site?
2. What type of pages do I want in addition to the home page and the how-to contact/location page?
3. What 3 colors will be the most effective?
4. Do you want only certain people to see your site? Password protect.
5. Do you want a guest book that visitors can sign?
6. Do you have a certain layout in mind for your pages?
